Hayling Island is an island off the south coast of England, in the county of Hampshire, east of Portsmouth. The sailing club there, Hayling Island Sailing Club, has to be one of my favourite spots to windsurf. It was originally formed in 1921 by seven sailors and has grown into one of the most popular spots in Hampshire. On a typical day down at HISC you’ll find plenty of watersports enthusiasts. And during the main season, you’ll see races happening every weekend.
It offers a safe ‘creek’ for beginners to learn and an exciting stretch of open water that leads into the channel. Growing up on Hayling Island, I made sure that I went down to practice my windsurfing as much as I could. Sometimes I’ll launch from the sailing club, just to avoid the traffic and head over to West Wittering Beach!
In this short teaser video, you’ll see me on the water having just launched off the sailing club.
